Arusha National Park

Arusha National park the closest national park to Arusha town–northern Tanzania’s safari capital–Arusha National Park is a multi-faceted jewel, often overlooked by safari goers, despite offering the opportunity to explore a beguiling diversity of habitats within a few hours. The three distinct and spectacular features of the Arusha National Park include the Momela lakes, the Meru Crater, and the Ngurdoto Crater. Both, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, can be seen from most places in the Arusha region provided that the weather is clear. The vegetation in Arusha is correlated to the altitude and geology of the area. Ngurdoto Crater is surrounded by forest whilst the crater floor consists of a swampy area. The Momela Lakes, like many in the Rift Valley, are alkaline, and Mount Meru is a mixture of lush forests and bare rocks. Those who ascend the summit of the mountain will be rewarded with unparalleled views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and the Rift Valley. In Arusha National Park you might not find lions or elephants, but it is a bird-watchers heaven with the thousands of Flamingo’s and other bird species resident at Momela Lakes, and there is still the charm of herds of grazing zebras, buffalos and giraffes set against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro’s impressive snow-clad peaks in the distant and the closer neighbor Mount Meru in Arusha National Park itself–in its own a very rewarding hikers and mountain climber’s paradise in Tanzania.
