Tour Description (Day 2 Day Activities)

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and after customs and immigration formalities you will be met by our representative who will drive to Arusha City which is the safari capital of Tanzania and is located beneath the peak twins of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. Arusha is a major international diplomatic hub.

Arusha is your gateway to the safari adventures that can be found on the famed northern circuit, Arusha is a dynamic and bustling city where Africa and the west collide in a dizzying, fascinating fusion. With a domestic airport (Arusha) and an international airport (Kilimanjaro), it’s also the perfect place to launch your adventures to Dar Es Saalam, Zanzibar, or even neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, or Uganda. The city is the capital of the East Africa Community and also houses the East Africa Court of Justice, located in the northern highlands of Tanzania. Overnight will be at The African Tulip Hotel.

DAY 2 – ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third-largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, and up to six thousand elephants. Enjoy a game drive with picnic lunches. The Tarangire River has shriveled to a shadow of its wet season self. But it is choked with wildlife. Thirsty nomads have wandered hundreds of parched kilometers knowing that here, always, there is water.

Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. Later in the afternoon, drive to your camp. Dinner and overnight at Maramboi Tented Camp or similar camp. All meals are included.

DAY 3 – LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK / KARATU & CULTURAL COFFEE TOUR

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a mid-morning game viewing driveThe shallow lake Manyara is an alkaline lake found in this park that swells up and reduces in size basing on the seasons found within a long silvery bowl of salt deposits. It covers an area of 220 sq km which is two-thirds of the park’s total surface area. The lake hosts a large number of pink flamingos in addition to other wildlife like hippos that dwell in the shallow part of the river. Later, proceed to Ngorongoro Highlands, arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon after lunch, you will visit a traditional Iraqw village for an authentic cultural experience of the local Iraqw tribe, getting an inside look at their homes and discovering their ways of keeping livestock and brewing Gongo (the local alcoholic brew).

The Iraqw people settled in the Ngorongoro area some two thousand years ago. They speak a Cushitic language and are agriculturalists who live along the hills and valleys of the plateau. Learn about their way of life and why they build their unique houses underground. Then, tour a coffee plantation and learn how coffee is handpicked, cleaned, sorted, and dried ready for grading and roasting.

After the visits, return to your lodge arriving in time to freshen up before dinner. Overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House or similar lodge. All meals included.

DAY 4 – NGORONGORO CRATER

After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater, often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. High walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds, and other species. Late in the afternoon, ascend and drive to your lodge in Karatu Area. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House or similar lodge. All meals included.

DAY 5 – DEPARTURE

After a leisurely breakfast, drive back to Arusha. Hot lunch at a restaurant in town. Enjoy a short city tour (this is optional) before proceeding to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
